Facilities

Providing Space Designed for Learning

Today’s students will face future challenges like no generation before them. The competition they will face in post-secondary education and in the workplace is unprecedented. For students like those at the Collegiate, getting by is simply not enough. Collegiate students are driven to excel.

To prepare them for this future, The Collegiate must provide them with the tools for learning – including well-equipped laboratories and classrooms that facilitate both discussion and discovery.

The Collegiate Campaign seeks to update or develop a number of spaces that will ensure students have access to the resources they need—when they need it—for optimum learning.

Convocation Hall has undergone mechanical and electrical work to support 21st century technology. Restorations are respectful of its history, yet with advanced technological upgrades to both maximize the potential and reinstate its use as a multi-purpose performance, reception, and exhibit space.

A closed-circuit television (CCTV) system, in place of a traditional P.A. system, will provide the critical means to communicate information to students. More importantly, a CCTV system will be used to showcase students’ work and give them hands-on experience developing their ideas for broader distribution.

Laboratories
Three existing laboratories will be updated to provide an environment equipped for hands-on exploration, engaging group discussion and private study to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
(3 lab renovations @ $100,000 ea.)

Classrooms are being updated with state-of-the-art teaching and learning equipment. Combined with wireless technology, SMART Boards energize presentations unlike a traditional chalkboard ever could and LCD projectors will enable teachers to bring the world to the classroom through the internet.
(15 smart classrooms @ $12,000 ea.)

Mobile Computer Labs
The Collegiate hopes to make computer labs a thing of the past. Instead, students will integrate a computer into their classwork throughout the day. This initiative will begin with the acquisition of two mobile computer labs that include a laptop for each student and the technology to link each station to the teacher.
(2 mobile labs @ $40,000 ea.)

Tonys

Tony’s Canteen has been a tradition within the Collegiate for generations. As part of the redevelopment of Collegiate facilities, Tony’s will relocate to its original space in the basement of Wesley Hall.

Time and good use is taking its toll on The Collegiate furnishings. To ensure classrooms remain welcoming, they will be updated with modern student workstations that can accommodate group discussion as well as individual study. (2W07 & 1W09, then 1W08 & 1W06)

Your donation in support of facilities will have a lasting impact on students – today and for years to come.
