‘The Collegiate is a remarkable place,” says Dr. James (Jim) MacDonald, Class of '64 alumnus and Chair of the Collegiate Campaign.
“My Collegiate experience continues to shape my life everyday. The knowledge I gained prepared me for higher education and a rewarding career. More importantly, The Collegiate showed me that treating others with respect and allowing them to take responsibility enables them to succeed,” says Jim.
“I want others who can’t afford to go to The Collegiate to have the same opportunities I had.”
“It is no secret that I did not like school, and school did not like me,” says Jim. “At the end of Grade 11, it hit me that the path I was on wasn't heading to Grade 12. I had no expertise, no training, and no abilities. I still remember that awful feeling of anxiety about my future.”
An aunt arranged for Jim to speak with Lorne Tomlinson, then Dean of The Collegiate. Accepted into the school, Jim successfully completed high school at the Collegiate and went on to University and a career in investment management.
In April 2005, Jim made an unprecedented pledge of $1 million to The Collegiate. In his words, “now the Collegiate can continue to do even more of its wonderful work for generations to come.”
