Aboriginal and Indigenous Programs
The University of Winnipeg's Bachelor of Arts in Aboriginal Governance program has already developed a positive reputation for producing students who are prepared to take leadership roles both in the public service, in the legal field, and with First Nations and Métis organizations. Beginning in Fall 2008, students at the University will have the option of pursuing the only Master of Arts degree in Aboriginal Governance in Canada, and will be able to seek support from the Duff Roblin Scholars Fund – recently established in honour of the former Manitoba premier.
We are also developing a specialty in the area of Indigenous Science education – the study of how traditional Aboriginal knowledge of nature and environment may be applied to scientific research – with plans to introduce a Bachelor of Science degree in the field. And our nationally-recognized Theatre and Film Department offers Aboriginal students even more opportunities to explore their cultures through creativity and artistic expression including through Red Roots Theatre.
